It was a competition for the covering of the stands of the Monzón Athletics Stadium with a very limited budget and trying to take advantage of the existing structure of the stands.
The main objective is to propose an architectural project that is characterized by structural and material efficiency, allowing for the optimization of resources in order to minimize execution costs.
The folded steel sheet roof is supported by a sequence of light purlins of 5.00 meters, located every 2.50 meters. These purlins are supported on metal trusses with a span of 11.00 meters, in the shape of a “fly wing”, which optimize their axial forces so that they can be executed by means of simple tubular profiles.
The load transmission is carried out without bending moments, being the compression axles on the head of the circular columns, and stabilizing the structure by means of tensile axles through a cable connected to the foundation.
A last profile connects with the central span pillar, making the whole assembly work as a system, and balance against wind or snow overloads.
